Book about Software Engineering in the Flash/Flex World
Juten Tach,
i’m going to write my first book! Actually i have already started with the research. The book will be about the most important parts of software engineering for Flash-/Flex-developers and it will be published by Addison Wesley. I have not yet completed the whole structure of the book yet, but i want to focus very much on software design and processes in software engineering.
Flash and Actionscript have been a part of my work-life for about 8 years now and together with other languages like Java and C# they helped me learning to develop software in an object oriented way. The more Flash grows and emerges, the more we finally see the need for good techniques and processes for building applications with it. RIAs today become more and more complex and so the need for good structuring and the need for efficient approaches for building those applications in a team rise constantly. These approaches do exist already and are finetuned and reconsidered in the software industry since the seventies. I found it always to be very interesting to learn from these experiences that exist in the rest of the software world and getting to know new ideas.
Now i will write down the ones that i find most useful from a Flash-/Flex-developers point of view. There are a lot of good books out there, that cover Actionscript and how it is to be used efficiently. There are also quite some good books, that explain Design Patterns by using Actionscript. In addition to these i want to write down my findings of good procedures for building Flash or Flex applications, which in my exes complement the knowledge of Actionscript, Patterns and general development skills.
But i am just right at the start yet, so don’t expect anything too soon. I will probably write about interesting findings every now and then.

you need a proof reader?
Hey Sven, congratulations and good luck! I guess the book will be in english?
Hi Sönke,
thank you. No, i will write in german. I figure, writing my first book not in my motherlanguage would be a bit too hard
