ECMAScript 3.1 – harmonious approach

Juten Tach,
a lot of buzz is going on about ECMAScript 4 being suspended and efforts are concentrating on the new ECMAscript Harmony project now, which will eventually result in a ECMAScript 3.1 version at the beginning of next year.
As a Actionscript developer i am a bit sad about these news, although i a sure, this will have no direct impact on Actionscript, at least in mid-term. But since i am also working on HTML/Javascript projects from time to time, i really would have loved to see Javascript go into the direction, Actionscript has taken.
On the other hand, we have seen quite some articles from flash developers lately, that talk about having a hard time to keep pace with how Flash and Actionscript have evolved in the past years. So maybe the folks in the ECMAScript working group are right if they say, that progress should be made in smaller steps, so that no one is left behind, since the HTML/Javascript community is a lot bigger than the Flash/Actionscript community.
So let’s see, what the future holds for Javascript, i hope they don’t throw out too much of the ideas of ECMAScript 4, there were some really nice gems in there.
