my blog, now in english
Juten Tach,
i have switched my blog to english language today, as you can probably see (it’s fun to write about things, people can actually see for themselves, like “this is my blog, i write posts here”).
As you can also see, i used to write in german and i will probably not translate the older entries, perhaps some, perhaps none. Since Jens already showed his disappointment about switching to english, i thought i just write a little post about it.
Writing in german is – being german as i am – obviously a lot easier for me than writing in english, although i like the english language a lot. In you mother language you can say things more accurately, make jokes that you could not do in a different language and a lot more. I am not sure, if i could tell a good joke in english yet, i think it is a good sign, that you know the language well, if you are able to tell good jokes (thos, that depend on the language for example).
But on the other hand, in the world of programming and software engineering almost everything is in english nowadays. Most of the blogs i read are in english, even of people here in germany, mostly all resources i consume in the software area are english. And the agency i’m working for also has a strong international focus and of course, lot’s of the stuff i am writing about are experiences i have gained at work.
So i figure, it makes more sense to write in english, also for to reach a broader audience. And as nice side effect, i hope my english will improve. As a kind of reminiscence to my mother language i will keep the “Juten Tach” and the german date notation
(i will never understand the logic behind the english notation anyway)
